Tents and Canopies / Tyvek Ground Sheet
Constructed from tough but lightweight Silicone Nylon, the Deschutes Tarp offers durability and portability. Its pyramid design effectively sheds wind from all directions, providing excellent stability. When paired with the Serenity NetTent, it creates a double-walled ultralight solo tent weighing just 24 ounces.
One trekking pole setup allows you to adjust the height based on weather conditions. The tarp features a side entry for convenience and boasts 44 square feet of living space with a peak height of 49 inches. It offers a surprising amount of space-to-weight ratio.
Easy to set up with just one adjustable trekking pole and six stakes, the Deschutes Tarp has a long zippered entry for easier access. Its top vent helps reduce condensation, and the single-pole setup with a hexagonal shape provides maximum protection at minimal weight.
The tarp offers easy tension adjustment, allowing you to keep the tent taut from your sleeping bag for better weather protection. It provides 360° coverage and pairs easily with the Serenity NetTent to keep bugs at bay.
If you're over 6 feet tall, you may wonder if you'll fit. The answer depends on several factors, including the setup height, depth of your sleeping pad, and your sleeping style. Refer to the picture of the Deschutes Tarp with the Serenity NetTent: the Serenity is 84 inches or 7 feet long, with vertical end walls of 9 inches. Without the Serenity, the height is 13 inches between the ground and canopy.
Many people prefer thick 2-inch to 4-inch sleeping mats, which while comfortable, significantly compromise internal space and reduce headroom. Setting up the Deschutes low to the ground will similarly affect the space. However, when properly set up, the Deschutes has both ample room and excellent weather protection.
For the recommended pole height, the Deschutes Tarp can be set up at different heights. At 40 inches, the Deschutes hugs the ground for maximum protection. You can accommodate a height of between 45 inches to 49 inches depending on conditions and personal preference. For maximum interior space, especially when using the Serenity NetTent, set your pole to 49 inches. To maximize the sleeping area, angle your pole so the bottom is inside the vestibule area.
